Libelle Group collaborates with the Heart Foundation

Friday 14th September 2018

Food school provider Libelle Group collaborates with the Heart Foundation for nutritious lunches.

Menus at tuck-shops in schools are set to get the Heart Foundation “Fresh Made” registration with a cutting-edge menu by school tuck shop service provider Libelle Group.

Libelle Group, with its Champion Tuckshops and txt-my-lunch cashless payment system, has changed the way students buy healthy lunches in school with now some 60,000 students having access to the service at tuck shops around the country.

Libelle Group has been collaborating with the Heart Foundation to work towards the nutrition targets for Fuelled4Life, “Fresh-Made” registration. This means the national menu will include more nutritious options to support the health and wellbeing of school students.

Some of the key changes to the menu so far include the use of whole grain bread, more vegetables and fewer sweet menu items.

This aligns with the Government’s objectives to ensure students are getting better lunches at school that provide wholesome sustainable food covering all the food groups.

The project to get more wholesome nutritious foods in schools has been between Nelson Marlborough Health, the Heart Foundation, Diabetes Projects Trust and school food service provider Libelle Group, to lead the charge in transforming NZ school tuck shops.

“Our aim is to decrease the obesity rate and diabetes rates amongst school students. Having one of the highest obesity rates in the OECD has to change and this innovative project paves the way for a new way of thinking and eating in our schools,” Libelle Group Owner Johannes Tietze said.

“Libelle Group’s whole philosophy is around “feeding hungry learners” and this milestone project is an outstanding way to get that message across to not only students, but their parents and caregivers,” he said.

Libelle Group founder Johannes Tietze is a fully qualified chef and says his company has been spear-heading the push for nutritional, balanced food in schools since 2005 and is delighted to be involved in the business of feeding hungry kids at school, therefore giving them a better platform for focus on learning.

“ It’s fantastic to have the support of Heart Foundation, Nelson Marlborough Health and Diabetes Project Trust as we go on this journey to sustainably change New Zealand tuck shop food for good and offer a menu that students will enjoy.

We want parents to embrace our txt-my-lunch payment system so they can rest assured that their kids are actually getting the food they need and not spending their lunch money on junk food on their way to school,” said Libelle Owner Johannes Tietze.
