New Online TV Series Explores the Difficult Topics for Cancer Patients
Canopy TV, a new online video series that explores difficult subjects such as sex during cancer treatment and telling
your children that you have cancer, was launched yesterday.
Canopy Cancer Care CEO, Ben Harman said that Canopy TV aims to address topics that cancer patients and their families
might find challenging to discuss or that might not be top of mind when they are first diagnosed.
“Our aim with the Canopy TV series is to answer those difficult questions and provide information about cancer that is
not widely talked about. Providing patients with easily accessible information, when they are ready for it, is key and
plays a really important part of a patient achieving the best possible outcome and living positively with their
condition.
Oncologist, Dr Richard Sullivan says “Patients often find it difficult to talk about things that might affect them like
sex, or they need ideas on how to tell their children they have cancer or how they can improve their health outcomes
during cancer treatment.
“Psychosocial support plays an integral part of a patients’ and their families good health outcomes. The information
we’re providing through Canopy TV aims to fulfil people’s thirst for information that is sometimes not easily
accessible”, says Dr Sullivan.
Mr Harman says “Episode 1 of Canopy TV explores topics like sex and intimacy for women during cancer treatment, how to
tell your children you have cancer and the challenges that patients might face when finishing treatment.
“Canopy TV is not just for patients and their families. We are also aiming to increase people’s understanding of cancer
and provide relevant information and tools to health care professionals and the wider cancer community.
“We are producing a series of episodes that discusses the topics that isn’t widely talked about. Canopy TV is about
practical and useful information that helps people through their journey. For some people it might be about statistics
and side effects, for others is about sex and how they tell their children”, says Ben Harman.
