Consumer Council looking to recruit new members

The MidCentral DHB Consumer Council is looking to recruit new membership as it continues to advocate for the MidCentral community.

The Consumer Council was established in 2017 with the purpose of acting as a vehicle for consumers to participate in improving health outcomes at all levels of MidCentral DHB. The Council is chaired by John Hannifin who is known for his work in health promotion. Other members have links to community health, counselling, farming, and local migrant communities.

John Hannifin, Independent Chair, Consumer Council, has emphasised the need for membership to link across all community groups, beliefs, ethnicities, locations and health sector experience and to represent the diversity that is a reality in our communities. “There is opportunity to appoint new members to ensure we have that balance of representation. This will be critical if we are to contribute to a positive difference in the health and wellbeing of individuals, whānau, and communities."
It is important that the Consumer Council remains independent from MidCentral DHB and the Central PHO, as well as their contracted providers. Employees of MDHB, PHO and provider organisations are not eligible for membership.

Individuals residing in the MidCentral area are encouraged to apply via the Consumer Council section of the MDHB engagement page. Applicants who are not appointed to the Council may still be included in the MidCentral Consumer Advocate Network (CAN) for future projects and focus groups. These roles are important in ensuring consumers have input towards improving all stages of the patient journey.

Applications open Friday, 29 June, and will run until 20 July. Shortlisting will occur from 23-28 July, with candidate interviews to follow.
