Published: Thu 31 May 2018 09:40 AM
NZ Smokeless Tobacco Co (NZSTC) is proud to present NZ SNUS. www.nzsnus.co.nz is the one and only online retail outlet that will start selling snus on World Smoke Free Day (31st of May).
Miles Illemann, Co-Founder of NZSTC, said, “we have had enough waiting around for healthier alternatives to smoking. Vaping isn’t for everyone and if we want to achieve the national Smokefree 2025 goal, we need to act now!”
Snus is a small tobacco pouch placed between the gum and top lip to deliver nicotine.
Many industry professionals in the harm reduction field are showing support for the New Zealand snus movement.
Snus is 99% healthier than smoking with no links to any form of cancer. Three out of four people who used snus to quit smoking, quit smoking for good. With 50,000 people trying to quit each year in New Zealand, this could be the tool hardened smokers use to quit.
For more information on these figures, please read the report ‘smoke and vapor’ from Jenesa Jeram (The New Zealand Initiative).
NZSTC has intended to be fully transparent with the Ministry of Health. They will abide by all regulations regarding tobacco plain packaging, restricting sales to 18 and over, no point of sale advertising and all tobacco excise tax being paid.
Miles Illemann says, “we are not against the Ministry of Health, we just want the best for New Zealanders”.
“It’s an exciting time ahead” say Gerard Fitzgibbon, the Marketing Manager of NZSTC. With new initiatives coming into play like ‘snus for hospitals’ and ‘snus swap’ in dairies, where dairy owners stop selling cigarettes and start selling snus instead. This is due to the aggravated robberies occurring as a result of high cigarette prices.
