Following
Ministerial approval, we are pleased to announce the outcome
of Council elections, which were held in September 2017.
Joanna Hart and Maria Armstrong and have been newly appointed to the Council. Catherine Byrne has been reappointed as Council Chairperson.
These new members replace Joanne Hopson and Dr Jo Ann Walton. Dr Walton withdrew from the election process to accept a role at the Council as Director, Registrant Quality.
We sincerely thank these outgoing members for their dedicated service to the Council and to our nursing profession.

About our new Council members:
Joanna Hart lives in the Bay of Plenty and is a New Zealand-trained nurse working in accident and emergency healthcare. She has 20 years’ experience nursing in diverse settings, from operating theatres to emergency departments to clinical research, in both the private and public sectors, both in New Zealand and abroad.
Maria Armstrong is a Charge Nurse at Auckland District Health Board. She holds a Masters of Clinical Nursing and has broad experience across general surgery, general medicine, emergency medicine, perioperative anaesthetic care, aeromedical, emergency surgery, and infectious disease. Maria also sits on the NZNO Board of Directors.
Catherine Byrne graduated as a Registered Nurse in 1984 after completing her nurse training in Taranaki. She has a Masters in nursing and extensive practice and leadership experience. Catherine has held senior nursing management and leadership roles nationally and is currently the Director of Nursing, Taranaki District Health Board. Her strong leadership and practice experience fosters a practical reality to the setting of professional nursing standards.
