At 11.30am tomorrow, Thursday Waitakere DHB nurses, midwives and health care assistants are rallying outside the
Waitakere Hospital to engage the public and demonstrate their dissatisfaction about the government’s under investment
into quality patient care, nurses pay and safe staffing.
NZNO member Diane McCulloch says the weather will not put anyone off as they are already putting out the word to get
your wet weather gear ready.
“It is time to show the public we are a united voice that has waited long enough to be heard and we are greatly looking
forward to this chance to rally together,” Mrs McCulloch said.
“Unsafe staffing levels for us is a huge problem and we want the public to know that we are working in these conditions.
“I don’t feel we are properly recognised for the work we do for people in our care and the wages have been stuck for too
long.
“We think the DHB pay offer is pathetic, nurses have waited long enough.
“The DHBs need to really understand we are standing united as nurses and it is time to listen as we are fed up,” she
said.
NZNO campaign activities are planned throughout New Zealand to show the government that New Zealanders need it to
prioritise rebuilding a quality public health system by investing in nursing, the largest health workforce.
