Anytime Fitness Partners up with Diabetes New Zealand To Take Kiwis To a Healthier Place
New Zealand’s leading 24-hour fitness group and top global fitness franchise, Anytime Fitness, has teamed up as a Champion Sponsor with Diabetes New Zealand to help stem what is now New Zealand’s fastest growing long-term health condition.
Anytime Fitness New Zealand Managing Director, Richard Ball says “partnering with Diabetes New Zealand made absolute sense to the group as our key objective of helping kiwis get to a healthier place is totally aligned with the work of Diabetes New Zealand.” Richard says that the focus of an Anytime Fitness club is building healthier communities by offering a fun and friendly environment for “anybody, anytime.” For many people, convenience and accessibility are key barriers to joining a gym, so with nearly 40 clubs throughout New Zealand and 24/7 access, Anytime Fitness aims to make it easy for ‘anybody’ to find the time and place to pursue a happier, healthier life.
Anytime Fitness offers a range of services with a view to developing a programme that helps members achieve their health and fitness goals. “A big part of this is identifying those who have a health profile that is either pre-diabetic or puts them in a risk category.” A fitness plan together with personal trainers can go a long way to turning around a potentially high-risk health profile into a healthier one says Richard.
The Edgar Diabetes and Obesity Research Centre at the University of Otago has undertaken research into how fuelling the metabolism through exercise can reverse the type 2 diabetes epidemic which researchers refer to as a “global burden of diabetes and obesity.” Findings point to the greatest benefits coming from resistance training combined with ‘HIT’ (high intensity training) programmes.
The partnership with Diabetes New Zealand will see Anytime Fitness roll out a number of in club initiatives nationwide to help members and communities get to a healthier place whilst also contributing to the work of Diabetes New Zealand.
Diabetes New Zealand CEO, Heather Verry welcomed Anytime Fitness to the organisation’s elite group of Champion Sponsors. “It is a very positive move toward increasing awareness as to the importance of a fitness programme for diabetes prevention and management as well as offering an expert exercise and fitness solution that comes with a high level of support.”
