Hard Hitting Concussions Spark Response From Geneva Healthcare And Industry Leaders
35,000 is the number of estimated head injuries that Kiwis suffer each year, according to ACC’s Sport Concussion In New Zealand: ACC National Guidelines, May 2016.
In a bid to reduce the rate of brain damage caused by concussions, Geneva Healthcare spearheaded the inaugural BrainStorm: Heads Together For Concussion Conference 2017 in partnership with ABI Rehabilitation at the Havelock North Function Centre, Hawke's Bay on 17 - 18 November.
Attendees took their careers to the next level as they learned from fellow clinicians and researchers working in Concussion Management, debated the hot topics and controversies, and got updates on the latest trends. The conference featured topics on Managing Concussion in the New Zealand Context, Sports Concussion, Neuropsychology and Psychological Management, Multidisciplinary Management, Return To Work and more.
The impressive list of key industry leading speakers included Dr Alice Theadom, Associate Professor, Auckland University of Technology; Nathan D. Zasler MD, CEO & Medical Director of the Concussion Care Centre of Virginia; and John J. Leddy MD, Director of the Concussion Management Clinic at The University at Buffalo, New York.
