Meat Free Week – Live well. Eat well. Be well. Are you up for the challenge?
Bowel Cancer New Zealand invites you to join them from Monday 18 September to go meat free for seven days. We are
challenging all New Zealanders to a week without meat to help reduce their risk of bowel cancer and raise funds for a
worthwhile cause.
Supported by leading chefs such as Jamie Oliver and Deliciously Ella, Meat Free Week has taken off around the world from
Australia to the UK and Canada. Bowel Cancer New Zealand is proud to bring Meat Free Week to New Zealand for the first
time.
Rebekah Heal, Executive Officer, from Bowel Cancer New Zealand says that Meat Free Week is a great way to get people
thinking about the amount of meat they eat and to take steps towards a more balanced diet.
All funds raised will aid the work of Bowel Cancer New Zealand who support the approximately 3,000 New Zealanders that
are diagnosed with bowel cancer each year.
“Meat Free Week is a way to continue growing awareness of bowel cancer in New Zealand. We have seen huge improvements in
the New Zealand health system with the introduction of bowel cancer screening, but we must continue to help New
Zealanders’ reduce their risk every day,” said Ms Heal.
The World Cancer Research Foundation shows bowel cancer risk increases by 17% per 100g of red meat consumed per day; and
that bowel cancer risk increases by 18% per 50g of processed meat consumed per day.
