New World’s nationwide sausage sizzle for Starship
New World stores around the country are getting ready to cook thousands of sausages for a stellar cause: the country’s
national children’s hospital, Starship.
This Saturday, September 2nd, staff at more than 130 New World stores across New Zealand will fire up their barbecues
and fry some sausages for their shoppers to enjoy for a gold coin donation.
All funds raised are destined for the Starship Foundation, which raises funds so Starship Children’s Hospital can better
care for around 130,000 young patient visits every year.
Steve Anderson, Managing Director, Foodstuffs New Zealand Ltd, says New World has been a Five Star Sponsor of the
Starship Foundation since 2014, but this is its first nationwide sausage sizzle.
“New World supermarkets are at the heart of more than 130 local communities – from Kerikeri to Invercargill, and
Westport to Wairoa. It’s likely every one of those communities has had at least one of its youngsters treated by
Starship at some stage. This is a chance for all of us to show our gratitude and support for the incredible work they
do.”
Mr Anderson says the barbecues will be operated by store staff, with the possibility of store butchers, owners and
special guests donning aprons and tongs too.
Currently, New World’s sponsorship of Starship is funding special projects including a national multi-disciplinary
feeding clinic, which aims to help treat children with severe food allergies, aversions or medical complications that
affect their nutrition and ability to eat and enjoy food on their own.
“We also deliver free fruit boxes to every ward at the hospital twice each week, so family members can access healthy
food options while they are supporting their loved ones.”
