APNZL welcomes transitional housing announcement in Tauranga
24 August 2017 - Accessible Properties welcomes today’s announcement that the Government is supporting the construction of an additional 19 transitional houses in the Tauranga region.
“Transitional houses are a vital first step for moving people out of homelessness,” says Accessible Properties Chief Executive, Greg Orchard. “But equally important is ensuring there is sufficient long-term social housing available for people to move on to – otherwise the pipeline gets clogged.”
Accessible Properties plans to build another 153 homes in Tauranga to continue to grow the number of social homes in the region.
“We will continue to work with the Ministry of Social Development and transitional housing support agencies to ensure everyone who enters a transitional house is provided support to find a long-term housing solution, which may be in an Accessible Properties’ home,” says Greg.
“Through providing warm, dry, secure homes we enable families to stabilise this aspect of their lives and build a platform for their future.”
