Dr Amanda Oakley takes out TechSoup’s Lifetime Service Award

Waikato DHB’s dermatologist Dr Amanda Oakley took out best Google Technology Service in the New Zealand Charities Lifetime Service Award sector.

The New Zealand Charities Technology Awards, hosted by TechSoup, brought together over 90 guests on 16 March, Auckland to acknowledge the accomplishments of charitable organisations and individuals whose work exemplifies the finest qualities to strengthen New Zealand communities and bring about positive social change.

The Lifetime Service Award sponsored by Google was awarded to Dr Oakley, who is founder and editor in chief of DermNet New Zealand, a website dedicated to information all about skin conditions and their treatment.

The website is owned by the DermNet New Zealand Trust, and was created by Dr Oakley in 1995. It has now become a world renowned resource maintained by dermatologists and health professionals globally with over 2 million people accessing the site each month. With easy to read information it also translates into 100+ languages via Google Translate.

"We are grateful to all the volunteers and paid contributors that have helped make DermNetNZ.org a worldwide success. Without them, this award wouldn’t have been possible" Dr Oakley said.

"It was an absolute honour to have been recognised amongst such a prestigious crowd on the evening for a project I began many years ago. Today DermNet NZ is recognised as a technology leader and source of information to answer people’s questions about skin problems wherever in the world they live."
