OFFICE OF THE PRIME MINISTER’S CHIEF SCIENCE ADVISOR
Professor Sir Peter Gluckman, ONZ KNZM FRSNZ FMedSci FRS Chief Science Advisor 1 December 2016 In light of the 14 November M7.8 Kaikoura earthquake and the potential for ongoing, significant aftershocks, we have updated our advice on the likely psychosocial effects of such events, as and how these may be mitigated.
This briefing is a modification of advice released in May 2011, during the early part of the long-term recovery and rehabilitation phase that followed the Canterbury earthquakes.
The advice has been updated to reflect the uniquely complex nature of the Kaikoura earthquake series, and the learnings from the psychosocial response to the Canterbury series.
