World TV Day: Is your TV secure?
Today is World TV Day—and Safekids Aotearoa is reminding parents to secure TVs to the wall to prevent them from falling
onto and crushing children.
In New Zealand, one child every month is hospitalised with serious injuries after being crushed by a falling TV.
Children under 5 are most at risk.
"A TV falling a metre high has enough force to seriously injure or kill a child on impact," said Safekids Aotearoa
Director Ann Weaver.
Safekids Aotearoa's message is simple--Mount TVs to the wall with a TV bracket, or secure it with a low and stable piece
of furniture with a TV strap.
"These are simple and inexpensive solutions to make sure the whole family enjoys TV watching safely," Ms Weaver said.
