Kawatiri Wellbeing Hui promotes services
Having a go at carving, creating and eating your own healthy lunch, activities for the kids, a clothes and toy swap, healthy hamburger cook-off, free smears, blood pressure, weight, height, and spirometry checks - are all part of next week’s Kawatiri Wellbeing Hui.
Organised by Buller health services and led by Poutini Waiora Kawatiri Team, the hui at the Solid Energy Centre will feature more than 20 local agencies or organisations, activities and giveaways.
“The hui came about through discussions created by recent changes in health and social services. The idea of the hui is to inform Buller locals about these changes. This hui is targeted for all Maori and people who have an interest in their own health and what social services are available,” Rehia says.
“We’re hoping to encourage some folk who might not normally engage with health or social services.”
Poutini Waiora has collaborated with several organisations to make the hui possible.
“We would like to acknowledge the following – Solid Energy, The New Zealand Breast Cancer Foundation, West Coast District Health Board, West Coast Primary Health Organisation, and Community and Public Health.
“The Breast Cancer Pink Caravan will be there, you can get your hearing tested, get support to stop smoking, information about curtains and insulation, have a go at some seated exercise classes, get your blood pressure tested, and much more. People can hop on spin bikes and check out the mobility scooters too.”
Throughout the day, carver Hohepa Barrett will demonstrate and help people create their own carving to take away.
This is a free event hosted by Poutini Waiora, with support from Solid Energy, who are providing the venue free of charge.
The Kawatiri Wellbeing Hui runs from 10am to 4pm on Wednesday 23 November.
