Kiwi men swap their daily shave for a daily save

Kiwi men swap their daily shave for a daily save

Auckland, 15 November 2016: On average, a Kiwi male going for the clean shaven look spends around 130 hours a year maintaining his facial hair - that’s five minutes a day. Bowel Cancer New Zealand (BCNZ) is calling on men to ditch their razors throughout December, and shift this attention to another daily bathroom activity, their bowel movements.

Bowel Cancer New Zealand Chairperson Rebekah Heal says, “Bowel cancer kills more than 3,000 Kiwis every year. A change in bowel movements is one of the most common symptoms and one most people don’t want to talk about. If men simply ditched the razor for a month and used those daily five minutes to shift that awareness, hundreds of Kiwis could be saved.”

In its third year, global initiative Decembeard™, aims to encourage men throughout New Zealand to raise much needed funds and awareness for Bowel Cancer New Zealand (BCNZ), by growing a beard through December. Not limiting it to just beard growers, BCNZ is calling on the already bearded to get creative with their face fur and want the ladies to encourage and support.

Heal continued, “If caught early, bowel cancer is curable in more than 75 percent of cases. We hope men will show their support and grow a beard, helping to raise awareness of New Zealand’s most common cancer.”

Bowel Cancer New Zealand is a national charity for people and their families/whānau affected by bowel cancer. They are working to raise awareness of symptoms, promote early diagnosis and encourage fair and affordable access to treatment.
