NZRDA Strike Action Update

Unfortunately, we need to reschedule some non-urgent surgery and appointments over the next two days (7am Tuesday 18 October through to Thursday 7am 20 October) due to strike action.

“We will be communicating directly with all patients affected. If you have not been contacted, you are not affected”, said chief medical officer Dr Mike Roberts.

“Please be assured, if your surgery or appointment does have to be postponed, you will be re-booked.”

Patients who have appointments at Dargaville, Bay of Islands and Kaitaia Hospitals are not affected.

“The key message is that urgent care will be safe and that people can still come to Whangarei Hospital ED if they are feeling unwell. For minor problems we ask that people go to their GP or White Cross,” advised Dr Roberts.

Reduced services:

· All our services will be reduced during this strike action

· Our Emergency Department will still be open for emergencies

· If you are, or may be, seriously unwell you should still come to ED

· For less serious problems please contact your GP or White Cross.

Services which will remain open are:

· Emergency Department

· Intensive care unit

· Paediatric acute assessment unit

· Coronary Care Unit

· Acute surgery

· High dependency units

· Mental Health Inpatient Unit

· Special Care Baby Unit

· Renal Dialysis units

· All our hospital wards

· Patients requiring tertiary care will continue to be transferred to tertiary hospitals if required.

Services which may be affected are:

· Outpatient Clinics

· Some Elective surgery

· Operating theatres
