“What about the other breast?” – free seminar on breast reconstruction
The NZ Breast Cancer Foundation will host a free seminar on breast reconstruction after mastectomy on Wednesday October 19, 6:30pm-8:30pm, at Auckland University’s Medical School. The Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day (BRA Day) event is open to patients, public and medical professionals, and will be taught by leading reconstructive surgeons. Topics include the timing of reconstructive surgery, the various options available, and – a key concern for many patients – breast balancing (or “What about the other breast?”).
Refreshments will be served.
“Deciding if and when to have a reconstruction is just the first of many questions a woman has to answer when she undergoes a mastectomy,” said Van Henderson, chief executive at the NZBCF. “There are several different kinds of reconstruction, each with their pluses and minuses, and there are new developments all the time. Some women have reconstruction at the time of their initial surgery, while others make the decision years down the track. BRA Day is a chance for women and their supporters to hear about all the options and ask questions in a relaxing environment.”
To register, email breastnurse@nzbcf.org.nz, or for more information, visit www.nzbcf.org.nz/BRA-Day or call0800 BC NURSE (0800 226 8773).
Note to medical professionals: The “International Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day” (BRA Day)” has been endorsed by The Royal New Zealand College of General Practitioners (RNZCGP) and has been approved for up to1.5 credits CME for the General Practice Educational Programme (GPEP) and Maintenance of Professional Standards (MOPS) purposes.
