Southern DHB Primary Maternity Services Project kicks off this week
Over the next few weeks women, midwives, primary facility providers and other community providers of services, which support primary maternity services will have the chance to have their say about how best to provide sustainable primary maternity services across the Southern District.
A project led by a small team from the Southern DHB will discuss objectives and seek feedback to a number of questions in a series of meetings starting on 30 August.
Southern DHB Midwifery Director Jenny Humphries says that, “Southern DHB is committed to ensuring all women have sustainable, equitable access to maternity services across the district, and that the service is provided in the most efficient and effective manner.
“The project is about exploring this and it also acknowledges the Ministry of Health’s commitment to increase the utilisation of primary maternity services.”
Feedback can be provided at the meetings or in writing, and this will be used to report to the Southern DHB Commissioners with recommendations in regard to the challenges and opportunities for primary maternity services in the district.
Dependent on the feedback received the report may be used by the Southern DHB to implement changes to ensure optimal service provision for women and their families, which is both sustainable and encourages the utilisation of primary maternity services closer to home.
