EIT Nursing Academic to Address International Conference
Associate professor in EIT’s School of Nursing, Pamela Wood is to speak at a symposium in London which will consider past and existing practices in exploring possible innovative strategies to control and prevent infection in hospitals in the future.
Part of a prestigious national research project in Britain, the symposium is the first of its kind. It will bring together an international group of historians, health researchers, health professionals and policy makers who will focus on how history can inform infection control – a major concern in health care.
Dr Wood’s presentation will look at the way ideas about wound sepsis shaped surgical nurse training, nursing practice and the professional relations between nurses and surgeons before the development of antibiotics.
A registered nurse with a PhD in history, Dr Wood is extensively published and she is a regular presenter at conferences worldwide. Her main platforms for research centre on the history of nursing, midwifery and health.
