Southern Partnership Group releases Strategic Services Plan for Dunedin Hospital redevelopment
The Southern Partnership Group has released the Strategic Services Plan, which is the first formal document completed as part of the redevelopment of Dunedin Hospital.
“The Strategic Services Plan looks at Southern DHB’s future population and demographic forecasts, and considers challenges and potential solutions at a high level,” Southern Partnership Group Chair Andrew Blair says.
“The document is intended to help us understand the future health needs of the Southern region and help shape what future health services and the future hospital needs to look like.
“Staff, clinicians and management at Southern DHB and local stakeholders including the University, Polytechnic and PHO have made a significant contribution to the development of the Strategic Services Plan and will continue to be an invaluable source of knowledge and expertise in the redevelopment process.
“We want to be as transparent as possible and see having debate at the early stage of the redevelopment process as crucial to ensure we design and build a future-proofed facility,” Mr Blair says.
The Southern Partnership Group has also been presented with the draft Strategic Assessment which sets out the case for change and outlines the need to invest in infrastructure at Dunedin Hospital. The document will be released publicly once considered by Ministers.
“Having the business case with shortlisted options completed by this time next year and the preferred option developed into a Detailed Business Case a year later is an ambitious timeframe and we’re making good progress towards these.
“The priority over the next few months is on service planning in more detail, as work begins on the Indicative Business Case. We are also continuing to work closely with the Commissioner’s team to align the redevelopment with their wider work programme to create sustainable healthcare services for the Southern region.”
