Med-tech focus of Auckland conference

Research and innovation in medical technologies from New Zealand and overseas will be the focus of a conference in Auckland this month.

The one-day conference is organised by the Medical Technologies Centre of Research Excellence (MedTech CoRE) that is New Zealand’s translational research platform for clinically relevant and commercially viable medical technologies based on validated science.

The conference on 20 June will bring together researchers, healthcare providers, entrepreneurs and companies to learn about the latest in new research technologies.

Key speakers at the conference will include the inventor of Rex Bionics, Richard Little, on
‘Innovating in NZ for the International Market’ and the University of Auckland’s Professor Matthew Parsons on ‘The role and potential of medical technologies for care of an ageing population’.

The MedTech CoRE is funded by the Tertiary Education Commission and hosted by Auckland Bioengineering Institute and the University of Auckland.

It is a national partnership with AUT, Callaghan Innovation, the Universities of Canterbury and Otago, and Victoria University of Wellington.

The conference will also announce the 2016 Best Translational Research Project HealthTech Award, open to researchers associated with the MedTech CoRE undertaking translational medical technologies research.

This new award recognises exceptional projects which have the potential to make a significant impact on a major healthcare problem, demonstrate innovation in concept, have potential for translation and/or commercialisation and are effectively communicated.
