Southern DHB Gastroenterology Unit is getting a makeover

Southern DHB Gastroenterology Unit is getting a makeover

Ideas have turned into reality as the plans forge ahead for the redevelopment of the 8th Floor Gastroenterology Unit at Dunedin Hospital due to open in February 2017.

The current Gastroenterology Unit will soon undergo a remodel in the coming months to create a purpose-built facility that will include increased clinical spaces and an enhanced recovery area.

“The result of these changes will transform the experience of the patient, create a better working and teaching environment and, most importantly, futureproof capacity to allow us to undertake the recently announced roll-out of population bowel screening,” commented Dr Jason Hill, Clinical Leader Gastroenterology.

During the first week of July this year the Gastroenterology Unit will temporarily relocate to the 5th Floor (into the old NICU) to allow for the old unit to be completely demolished and rebuilt from the inside out.

As the redevelopment progresses, updates will be provided to staff, patients, family/whanau and the community. “We will also make sure you have the new details, as the changes start to occur, so that you can find, contact and continue to visit the Gastroenterology Unit,” said Dr Hill.

The temporary Gastroenterology Unit will be on the 5th Floor from the first week in July.
