World Smoke Free Day 31st May 2016

World Smoke Free Day 31st May 2016

May 31st is World Smoke Free Day. This year we have decided to commemorate the day by presenting a special prize giving for the Wero Challenge, a fun stop smoking competition that allows participants to raise money for a good cause. The teams work together over 3 months and have proven to be one of the most successful quitting programmes to date.

A major point of difference for the latest Wero programme is that it was delivered within the mental health sector; the last bastion where you are allowed to smoke. Consequently the smoking rates for both clients and mental health staff are very high and is often considered a ‘too hard basket’ for smoking cessation services.

It was therefore a major accomplishment to coordinate several organisations across Auckland to eventually form 31 teams consisting of 168 individuals. “This is the first mental health and addictions mass quitting programme in New Zealand and possibly the world”.

The prize giving will be at The Town Hall, 31st May 2016 - 930am-1200pm (Pōwhiri at 10am).
