Health and social services coming to Eastgate mall

‘The Loft’ is due to open in July

CHRISTCHURCH, 26 April 2016 – Eastgate Shopping Centre will soon be home to a social and health services centre – the first of its kind in New Zealand.

JLL is project managing the basebuild alterations, medical fit-out and office fit-out.

The project involves converting around 3000sqm of vacant first floor retail space into two new tenancies for a healthcare centre and a collaboration of social services charitable organisations known as the Alliance Group.

The space will be known as ‘The Loft’ and will be home to a wide range of community health and wellbeing services including the Linwood Integrated Family Health Centre, Aviva, Family Help Trust, He Waka Tapu, Red Cross Community Outreach, Citizens Advice Bureau, budgeting and family law services.

The appointment follows JLL’s successful project management of an extension to the common areas of the shopping centre.

The works have been designed by Athfield Architects and engineered by Connor Consulting, GHD and Holmes. The construction work is being done by Hawkins and is due for completion in June, in time for the centre to open in July.

“The complexity of this project is that the 21-week construction phase is happening in a working shopping centre,” Associate Director of JLL Project and Development Services Philip Overend says. “There are several sub-tenants so the project involves working with many stakeholders. Our project management covers a 22-month period and requires careful programming to mitigate the effects on the existing retail tenants and their customers.”
