Politicians to Brave Hair-oic Shave in Landmark Pub

The Backbencher Pub in Wellington has been the scene of many political close shaves over the years but on Tuesday three rival politicians will get the closest shave of all.

National’s Alfred Ngaro, ACT’s David Seymour and Labour’s Kelvin Davis have bravely decided to shave their heads in support of Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand’s (LBC) Shave for a Cure campaign.

Their hair-oic efforts are even more impressive given they’ll be shaved by three politicians from rival political parties.

Government ministers Nikki Kaye and Amy Adams will be wielding the clippers as will Annette King from Labour.

The hair-razing event will be broadcast live on TV3’s Story programme at 7pm and while there’s unlikely to be blood left on the floor, there’ll certainly be no shortage of hair.

LBC’s CEO Pru Etcheverry says the level of commitment shown by the politicians is both inspiring and humbling.

“We are incredibly grateful to all the politicians for getting behind Shave and generously giving up their time to support the campaign.”

“Their high public profile really helps us raise awareness of our work, so we in turn can help more New Zealanders,” she says.

Shave for a Cure is LBC’s signature fundraising event. Shave Week runs from April 4th – 10th and will see hundreds of schools, businesses and individuals shave their heads to help the six New Zealanders diagnosed with a blood cancer every day.

The funds raised through Shave for a Cure enable Leukaemia & Blood Cancer New Zealand, who receive no Government funding, to support and advocate for patients and families living with blood cancers and blood conditions across the country. They also provide education programmes, information, raise awareness and fund research into better treatments and potential cures.
