Actionstation Welcomes New Mental Health Funding For Canterbury
Monday 21 March
The announcement by the Government of an extra $20 million in new funding for mental health services over the next three years is being welcomed by ActionStation. 10,000 members of the group signed a petition calling for the Minister of Health, Jonathan Coleman, to stop cuts to funding for mental health services in Canterbury.
Ryan Mearns, ActionStation Campaign Director, has the following statement to make: “Our members welcome the moves from the Minister to boost funding for mental health in the region. The boost to funding for mental health in Canterbury will bring relief to community providers and the people of Canterbury. The overwhelming feedback from our members was that cuts to mental health funding were appalling in the face of extra strain on the region after the Valentine's Day earthquake. They wanted to be clear: thousands of New Zealanders stand with the people of Canterbury with over half of the signatures collected coming from outside of the region.”
