Southern DHB health targets improve

Southern DHB health targets improve

Southern DHB Chief Executive, Carole Heatly says the latest quarterly health target results show Southern DHBs performance is improving due to the hard work and dedication of its staff and providers.

“We’ve delighted that we’ve improved our overall performance in five of the six health targets and stayed the same in one which is a great result for Southern DHB.”

The latest results show that the DHB achieved the target of 95% of patients being admitted, discharged or transferred from an ED within six hours.

“This is down to the excellent work across all pathways of care on the 'acute patient journey' from primary care through to our emergency department and on to the inpatient units in secondary care then back to primary care,” said Ms Heatly.

The results also show Southern DHB delivered a high number of elective surgeries exceeding the 100 per cent target by 7%.

The DHB continues to exceed the number of elective surgeries it is required to deliver meaning more people have received the help they need.

“This is an important target and we’re pleased that our patients are able to access more elective surgery which has a positive impact on quality of life and well-being.

The DHB and WellSouth are working together collaboratively to strengthen services and further improve results and WellSouth Chief Executive Ian Macara said that he was also delighted with the results.

“They show that the committed work by our general practice teams means that more patients are getting help to quit smoking. The increase since the last quarter results from 78% to 87% of enrolled patients who smoke being offered help to quit smoking is a very commendable result.

“There are more diabetes and heart checks being carried out. Our immunisation rates remain at 94% and we’re working to increase this to the target of 95,” he said.

“We look forward to improving our targets further and continuing to provide the best possible care for our patients,” said Ms Heatly.
