December update from Southern Partnership Group

The Southern Partnership Group is pleased to approve the selection of health planners to support the strategic planning phase for the redevelopment of Dunedin Hospital. The successful provider will be announced and a services contract will commence in the New Year, subject to the recommendation receiving all the necessary approvals.

The planners will draw on the work already undertaken by Southern DHB to speed up the redevelopment process, including using their strategic health plan and audits on the condition on existing facilities. The Strategic Assessment (business case) for the redevelopment is expected to be reviewed by the Capital Investment Committee and Ministers of Health and Finance by late 2016. All major publicly funded building projects have to follow the Better Business Case Model. This approach is summarised on Treasury’s website.

The Southern Partnership Group also received a progress report on the important urgent and interim works that are underway across the Dunedin and Wakari hospital campuses and was pleased to note the progress being made.

The Southern Partnership Group also noted the recent important appointment of Southern DHB’s new Chief Medical Officer, Dr Nigel Millar and is looking forward to working closely with him.
