Beacon of light for Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder
Alcohol Healthwatch media release, 17 December 2015
Alcohol Healthwatch has warmly welcomed the release of a discussion paper to support the development of an Action Plan to address the prevention and treatment of Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) by the Ministry of Health and the initial Government commitment of $1,000,000 to kick start the action.
Health Promotion Advisor Christine Rogan says the two steps mark a significant step toward a brighter future for those affected by FASD and their families. “
This pressing health and social issue has been largely neglected for too long and affected families have struggled to get the help and support they need. These developments represent real progress and are a beacon of light on the horizon for them and all of the professionals who have worked to achieve it.”
Taking Action on Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD) – A Discussion Document is open for consultation until 26 February 2016, and Alcohol Healthwatch encourages all those with an interest to engage with this opportunity. It can be found on the Ministry of Health website: www.moh.govt.nz.
The Prime Minister announced the investment package yesterday saying it would come from the Proceeds of Crime.
