“What about the other breast?” – free seminar on breast reconstruction
The NZ Breast Cancer Foundation will host a free seminar on breast reconstruction after mastectomy next Tuesday October
20, 6:30pm-8pm, at Auckland University’s Medical School. The Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day (BRA-Day) event is open
to patients, public and medical professionals, and will be taught by leading reconstructive surgeons. Topics include the
timing of reconstructive surgery, the various options available, and the controversial question “What about the other
breast?”
Refreshments will be served.
“Post-mastectomy breast reconstruction rates are very low in New Zealand and this is something we would like to see
change,” said Van Henderson, chief executive at the NZBCF. “At the same time, women who do undergo reconstruction face a
number of decisions about their treatment, which can be quite daunting. BRA Day is a chance for them to hear about all
the options and ask questions in a relaxing environment.”
To register, email breastnurse@nzbcf.org.nz, or for more information, visit www.nzbcf.org.nz/BRA-Day or call 0800 BC NURSE (0800 226 8773).
Note to medical professionals: The International Breast Reconstruction Awareness Day (BRA Day) has been endorsed by The Royal New Zealand College of
General Practitioners (RNZCGP) and has been approved for up to 1.5 credits CME for the General Practice Educational
Programme (GPEP) Years 2 and 3 and Maintenance of Professional Standards (MOPS) purposes.
