Taranaki DHB Launches Visitor Policy Review

Taranaki DHB Launches Visitor Policy Review

Taranaki DHB has recently launched a review of the current visitor policy in place at both Taranaki Base and Hawera hospitals and we will be talking to patients, visitors and staff as part of this review. This is a direct result of feedback from patients, families/whānau, visitors and staff.

Lance Girling-Butcher, a Consumer Representative on the project team said, “I think it is wonderful that the health authorities are now listening to the most important people in the health system, that is, the patients and others in need.”

“This consultation indicates a growing awareness that there is more to repairing humans then just surgical intervention. Friends and family/whānau who visit patients play a significant role in the recuperation process,” added Mr Girling-Butcher.

Mary Bird, Taranaki DHB Service Improvement Advisor said, “This review is part of an ongoing project called Health Together: Hauora Huihui, which is making service improvements to ensure Taranaki DHB provides patient and family/whānau-centred care.”

Feedback about the current visitor policy will be collected from staff, patients and visitors over the coming months. The project team aims to make recommendations regarding the policy by the end of January 2016.
