New President for Society of Anaesthetists
The New Zealand Society of Anaesthetists has elected a new President at its AGM in Darwin.
Hamilton anaesthetist Dr David Kibblewhite takes over as President from Dr Ted Hughes who has completed his two-year
term in the role.
Dr Kibblewhite said he looked forward to working for members to represent the interests of safe anaesthesia.
“Our role is to ensure there is safe anaesthesia for patients and anaesthetists. We do this by supporting the further
education and professional development of anaesthetists to ensure high standards in the profession, and by advocating to
government and others for the continuation of these high standards.
“Our advocacy work includes ensuring that any changes to practices, medications and medical equipment for surgery, and
childbirth, do not compromise the high standards of anaesthesia that New Zealanders expect”.
I thank Ted Hughes for his work and look forward to continuing this work for the Society, Dr Kibblewhite said.
The existing members of the committee were re-elected. The AGM was held in conjunction with the NZSA and ASA Combined
Scientific Congress in Darwin, on September 14.
