Lemon festival raises funds for Cancer Society

Lemon festival raises funds for Cancer Society

Cancer Society volunteers and supporters will be celebrating all things yellow next Tuesday, August 11, when the Luscious Lemon Festival will be held in Hamilton.

The Waikato/Bay of Plenty Cancer Society is encouraging people to come along to the lemon-themed fundraising event, which will take place between 9am and 11am at the Cancer Society’s Lions Lodge.

The festival is being organised by Cancer Society volunteers, who have been busy preparing a number of food and craft items for sale, as well as organising auctions and raffles for the event. There are also a limited number of seats available for high tea, with tickets available for $10 from the Cancer Society’s Hamilton office.

“The first Luscious Lemon Festival was held at the Lodge last year and it was a fantastic success, so we’re thrilled it’s being held again in 2015,” said Catriona Findlay, fundraising manager for the Waikato/Bay of Plenty Cancer Society.

Miss Findlay said the event was originally conceived as a get together for existing Cancer Society volunteers, but it soon evolved once they realised other people wanted to get involved and saw the opportunity to raise money for the society.

“The Cancer Society receives no direct government funding so we’re extremely grateful for community fundraising events like this and for our wonderful volunteers,” said Miss Findlay. “I would encourage people to bring a friend along and enjoy the morning; it’s a great way to support the Cancer Society.”

To purchase a ticket for the morning tea, please call the Cancer Society’s Hamilton office on 07 838 2027 or email admin@cancersociety.org.nz
