Hundreds of thousands raised for local cancer fundraiser
Over 3200 compassionate Kiwis have raised an impressive total of more than $400,000 to support New Zealanders living
with cancer.
Last month’s charitable fundraiser Dry July is an annual campaign with a positive two-fold experience for its
participants. The popular challenge not only provides the motivation to ‘lose the booze’ for a month to clear heads, but
the feel-good factor gained through accumulating monetary donations for people in need is what solidifies the whole
experience for many.
Brett MacDonald, CEO and co-founder of Dry July, is over the moon with the involvement of the participants and the
generousity of their supporters. “We are grateful for every dollar donated,” says Macdonald. “It will make a real
difference to the lives of people living with cancer.”
And it seems there may be some ongoing benefits to those who have taken part, with incredible feedback from over a third
who say they are intending to extend their dry spell into August.
Since its launch in 2012, more than 15,000 participants have collectively raised over $2.4 million in New Zealand,
helping Dry July support cancer services across the country.
Dry July NZ Country Manager Scott Savidge is pleased with the outcome of this year’s campaign, which ensures that
beneficiaries will receive funds that are critical to completing much needed cancer-related projects.
Proceeds will no doubt be welcomed among the following beneficiaries and their patients: Auckland Region and Northland
Hospitals, Wellington Blood and Cancer, Canterbury Regional and Haematology Service, Dry July Supporting NZ Fund and –
new additions for 2015 – the Cancer Society of New Zealand and Southern Blood and Cancer.
“We are deeply appreciative of everyone who particiapted and donated to this year’s challenge,” says Savidge. “This
outstanding result means that Kiwi cancer patients and their families can look forward to improved facilities around the
country.”
