Kiwis Asked To Put Their Best Feet Forward

Kiwis Asked To Put Their Best Feet Forward, In Odd Shoes, For Camp Quality

3 August 2015: Established 30 years ago children’s cancer charity Camp Quality New Zealand (CQNZ) dedicated to bringing fun, hope and happiness to children living with cancer, is looking for New Zealanders young and old to put their best feet forward in support of its national Odd Shoe Day fund raiser on Friday September 11th.

Camp Quality sees the concept of asking people to spend just one day of the year wearing shoes that don’t match - maybe the wrong size and colour - to school, work or play as a novel and fun way to raise much needed funds to help continue it’s good work.

“It is in keeping with the aims of our programmes, to make them a fun and enjoyable experience,” says Camp Quality chairman, Wayne Collie. And we hope that wearing odd shoes for one day may also put a smile on the face of more New Zealanders and encourage them to support our cause on September 11.”

With a letter already having gone out to more than 4000 schools nationally seeking their support for the promotion, Mr Collie says CQNZ also hopes adults in the workplace, service organisations and the wider community will buy into the campaign. Money raised from Odd Shoe Day will go a long way to meet the cost of the various programmes.

Regional camps are the heart of Camp Quality. They deliver high quality recreational programmes to approximately 300 children, aged 5-16 years, supported by an equal number of trained companions and volunteer staff. The main camps held in January are followed by re-union days, winter camps, mini camps and other social occasions.

According to Child Cancer Foundation statistics, around 150 young New Zealanders are diagnosed with cancer each year. Camp Quality passionately believes in the power of fun, hope and happiness to help these children and their families overcome the challenges cancer brings.
