Medical Rescue is pleased to announce the commencement of its activities for the provision of Alpine Medical Services at NZSki’s Coronet Peak and Remarkables ski areas. This marks a milestone for the company and its personnel and sees it return to NZ in an operation of scale and relevance to the community.

Medical Rescue is a privately owned NZ company, originally founded by Dr Glenn Mckay in the mid-late 2000’s, which has experienced substantial growth in Australia and SE Asia. The broader Medical Rescue group, of which the NZ company is an affiliate, is a specialist pre-hospital emergency and aeromedical evacuation service. The business has substantial operations in Australasia serving international travellers in emergency aeromedical retrieval as well as offshore oil & gas helicopter search and rescue operations.

Medical Rescue has substantial links to the local and regional communities in Queenstown and Central Otago already, and has a strong desire to be a valued member of the medical services community throughout the region. The company’s operations are directed jointly by Dr Mckay and Mr Brian MacDonald, who both have long term interests and relationships in the region, and who have both resided part time in Queenstown for many years.

Dr Mckay is a kiwi, born and educated in Dunedin, where he gained his medical qualifications from the University of Otago Medical School. Dr Mckay has considerable experience in pre-hospital, emergency, and aeromedical retrieval operations. Mr MacDonald is an Australian with extensive business interests including Medical Rescue, which is a key focus for further investment, growth and development in NZ.

The company has made a considerable investment in new equipment and technology for its Queenstown operations that have not previously been available on the mountains. In addition the clinics will be staffed by additional personnel, including a Doctor, an Emergency Nurse and a Physiotherapist - all on duty whenever the resorts are open, including during the night ski activities at Coronet Peak.

Of equal significance is the support being provided to these personnel by the company’s 24 hour coordination centre with its team of 5 emergency specialists experienced in remote & pre-hospital emergency medicine, the coordination centre provides a high level of clinical governance aided by “cloud based” IT systems with cases reviewed in real time by its specialists.

Medical Rescue is grateful for the warm reception that has been provided by the medical community and St John Ambulance in Queenstown and in the region as we have worked through the usual challenges associated with commencing a new service.

Along with NZSki, Medical Rescue is committed to providing the highest level of patient care available at the ski areas, and we look forward to working collaboratively with the local and regional medical providers to support the Queenstown community and its local and international visitors.
