Man missing since yesterday rescued by Life Flight

Man missing since yesterday rescued by Life Flight

At Approximately 12 midday today The Life Flight Trust was Tasked to Rescue a man in his 60’s who had been missing since yesterday.

Life Flight responded in the Westpac Rescue Helicopter with a Wellington Free Ambulance Paramedic on-board.
The Man was the subject of an intensive air search in the Kaitoke regional Park by the Rescue Helicopter the previous evening.

He was located by a Police Dog handler late this morning on the Pylon Loop Track near Kaitoke and was reported to be extremely unwell after spending a night in the bush.

Wellington Free Ambulance Paramedics arrived on scene and tramped to the man’s location where they confirmed that he was in a critical condition and needed to be winched out immediately.

The Paramedic was winched to the patients location where he was quickly assessed and immobilised on a Stretcher designed specifically to be used in Helicopter winch rescues.

Due to the height of the pine trees a high winch was the favoured option to keep the Helicopter clear of obstacles. The patient and Paramedic were then both winched 150 feet up to the Helicopter where he was secured and flown to Wellington Hospitals Emergency Department in a serious condition.
