Anglican Church in Aotearoa NZ on Lecretia Seales

There is a sense of sadness but also a legacy to refocus public discussion in the death of Lecretia Seales

Archbishop Philip Richardson of the Anglican Church in Aotearoa New Zealand, says the death of Lecretia Seales brings sadness. He says it is also a time to acknowledge her courageous determination to give focus to an issue, which requires wide debate and consideration in our community.

The Church is also aware that this has been a demanding situation for the Justice system and in particular Mr Justice Collins, whom Archbishop Philip says has also been in his prayers.

Archbishop Philip says, “As a Church we are committed to engaging fully with the debate our society needs to have on this matter. There are demanding questions and it raises issues of the deepest significance for our humanity, which require the engagement of all in our society. Whatever our views, part of Lecretia’s legacy will be to refocus this public discussion.”

Archbishop Philip says Lecretia and her family will continue to be in his thoughts and prayers.

“For the moment I simply want to acknowledge Lecretia’s passing and the loss this is to those who love her most. To them I offer the assurance of the prayers of the Church and our condolences.”
