Relationships Aotearoa closed down for speaking up?
The closure of Relationships Aotearoa raises a lot of questions that need answers.
Kerry Davies, PSA assistant national secretary, said “There are a lot of questions about how things ended up at this stage with Relationships Aotearoa now being closed.”
“The consequences of such an abrupt closure appear not to have been given serious consideration. This is evident in the disruption and uncertainty for both clients and staff caused by the decision to close the service and the manner in which this has been done without any reasonable timeframe or plan to manage the transition of services”
“Questions are being asked about the process for raising funding issues with the Government. What happens when an organisation that has run for over 66 years speaks up about critical issues to do with funding?”
“It’s worrying to think that if you challenge the government over insufficient funding, instead of addressing that issue the government will choose to remove funding altogether.
“Serious issues of funding should be able to be addressed without fear of closure.
“Where is the accountability for government to support vulnerable New Zealanders?” said Ms Davies.
