Bring Medical
Laws into 21st Century
Even though Australia will
legalise medical marijuana in 2015, New Zealand patients are
still risking arrest to access the same medical
treatment.
Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews said it was time to drag marijuana laws "into the 21st century".
The Guest family from Northland have been torn apart by New Zealand's cannabis prohibition laws but are experiencing amazing results treating their epileptic daughter in Colorado.
"New Zealand's medical cannabis laws also need to be brought kicking and screaming into the 21st century," Cannabis Party leader Julian Crawford said.
"Doctors already have the lawful authority to prescribe cannabis but are unable to access an afford and legal supply of the 'wonder-drug'."
This could be solved by establishing caregiver-growers who are licensed to grow a limited number of plants for individual patients and specialised dispensaries, which supply any patients who don't have a caregiver-grower.
"Dispensaries have been legal in California since 1996, while the entire West Coast of North America has legalized cannabis in some form," Crawford said.
"With Australia legalising for medical use, New Zealand risks being left behind the rest of the Anglo-sphere."
