Southern Patients encouraged to respond to survey on their hospital experience
Southern DHB is encouraging
people to respond to a new survey asking for feedback on
their stay in hospital.
A random selection of people in the Southern DHB region who spent at least one night in hospital from 3 to 16 November have been sent an invitation to participate in the national survey.
Patients are able to fill in the survey online using a computer, tablet or smartphone, or can post their response back to the DHB.
Developed by the Health Quality & Safety Commission, the survey results will help DHBs make improvements in care and give the public valuable insights into the performance of their local health services.
The survey responses are anonymous unless patients choose to supply contact details.
Southern DHB is sending the survey to patients once every three months. Responses are collated to give each DHB a rating out of 10 in four areas: coordination, partnership, communications, and physical and emotional needs.
DHBs undertook the first of these surveys between 26 August and 19 September 2014, with over 1500 responses, about a quarter of patients contacted.
Southern DHB was delighted with the results of the first survey which showed that patients are happy with their experience of Southern DHB hospital services.
“The results gave a good balanced view of the feedback which we are using to build on and improve our patient experience and are quality of care. We are encouraging patients to fill in the next survey as the results provide valuable feedback,” said Southern DHB Executive Director of Nursing and Midwifery, Leanne Samuel.
