Medibank grants to wellbeing projects exceed $100,000

Medibank grants to Kiwi health and wellbeing projects exceed $100,000

4 November 2014

The Medibank Community Fund (MCF) has distributed more than $100,000 in grants to community organisations that promote healthy lifestyles and community connectedness.

Medibank New Zealand General Manager Andrea Pettett says the MCF grants programme is an important investment in community health, supporting local initiatives that encourage healthy eating, physical activity or community connectedness.

“All the projects are making important contributions to the health and wellbeing of local communities and responding to the particular needs of specific groups.”

She says the projects were chosen by Medibank employees who reviewed the applications and selected the projects that best met the criteria.

“The programme is all about helping grassroots projects improve health at a local level, and we’re delighted to give a boost to projects that are making such an important contribution to their communities.”

The 2014 Medibank Community Fund New Zealand Community Grants have been awarded to:

Rowley Avenue School, Christchurch – $5100 for outdoor education equipment for the school’s leadership programme

Aspire, Wellington – $15,000 for activities that aim to improve the quality of life of mental health consumers and the homeless

Fair Food, Auckland – $20,000 to expand its food rescue operation that collects fresh food that would otherwise go to waste and redistributes it to those in need

Ngāti Tamaoho Trust, South Auckland and North Waikato – $10,000 for a programme of activities to encourage people to be physically active through kapahaka

Hello Sunday Morning – $50,000 to develop a mobile app that seeks to change people’s relationships with alcohol.
