Celebrating International Volunteer Managers’ Day

International Volunteer Managers’ Day on 5 November gives us the opportunity to recognise the efforts of those Arthritis New Zealand staff members who manage volunteers, and celebrates their skills, motivation and preparation they provide to the thousands of New Zealanders who volunteer their time and effort in many different ways to support our services. Without them, Arthritis New Zealand would be unable to provide comprehensive support to the 530,000 New Zealanders who are living with arthritis, and Chief Executive Sandra Kirby urges us to celebrate the work of those who manage volunteers by observing International Volunteer Managers’ Day.

The international theme this year: “Volunteer Managers – Visionaries for Volunteering” has proudly been inspired by Volunteer New Zealand’s theme and whakataukī, “Ki te kahore he whakakitenga kia ngaro te iwi”, which translates to “without foresight or vision, the people will be lost.” New Zealanders’ are encouraged to reflect on this as we celebrate the importance of management of volunteers.

“Volunteers are vital to enable us to provide the support and services we give. So we are grateful for the dedication and efforts of those who manage our volunteers,” Ms Kirby said.
