Who are the ‘goodies’ and ‘badies’ of the kids food industry?
What are the 2014 Munch Awards?
The Munch Awards aim to raise awareness of the following;
• What foods are good and bad for our kids
• The techniques that advertisers use to promote unhealthy food to our kids,
• To recognise the advertisements that promotes healthy food to children in a fun and appealing way.
• What kitchen products are good for our kids
• The best of what parents have to say about kids food
• What are the best kids menus
The Awards were launched last year and was very successful.
This year we have included two new categories, one being the Best kids food menu, as the Heart Foundation of New Zealand have been doing some great work around encouraging resturants and cafes to offer healthy menus to our children. So this category is a way to support their efforts.
The other new category is the Supreme winner award that will be judged by our fantastic panel of judges being Niki Bezzant the Editor of the Healthy Food Guide, Brett McGreggor our first Masterchef winner, Professor Cliona Ni Mhurchi from Auckland University and Claire Turnbull a familiar voice on Newstalk Zb.
The Awards give people a chance to have their say about the food industry in relation to our kids.
Parents are key in keeping their children healthy, and it is easy to shift the blame to them for the obesity epidemic. However, our kids are constantly targets for junk food ads, whenever they switch on the TV, walk down the street, surf the internet, or even go out to play sport. It’s tough for parents! So now it is time for parents to have their say.
A similar peoples award has been very successful in Australia over the last 5 years. It is run by Parents Jury.
We are pleased to be supported by the Healthy Food Guide, ecostore, Kiwi Families, Kiwi Mummy Blogs and Nil products to name a few.
Nominations are now open. Voting will commence on the 27 October 2014. Results will be announced on 25th of November 2014 on the site.
