Anti-fluoride ad is pulled after yet another ruling from the Advertising Standards Authority

The NZ Dental Association acknowledges the Advertising Standards Authority on their recent decision, that of finding yet another Fluoride Free NZ advertisement to be misleading.

The NZ Dental Association abhors the constant scaremongering some anti-fluoride groups continue to pursue.

“This Advertising Standards Authority decision once again confirms that this anti fluoride lobby group has out dated, poorly informed and inaccurately biased views on community water fluoridation” says Dr David Crum, CEO of the NZDA.

“The NZ Dental Association’s position, based on the scientific evidence, is that community water fluoridation is a safe, effective and cost efficient way of reducing dental caries and reducing health inequalities,” says Dr David Crum.

The recent and substantial report, “Health effects of water fluoridation: a review of the scientific evidence” published on behalf of the Royal Society of New Zealand and the Office of the Prime Minister’s Chief Science Advisor strongly affirms the scientific evidence into the safety and positive health effects of water fluoridation.

Dr Crum went on to state that the NZ Dental Association is not alone in its position, the NZ Medical Association along with the Ministry of Health, the Australian and American Dental Associations, the World Health Organisation and the World Dental Federation to name a few all support community water fluoridation.
