“Iron Māori Hot topic for Tū Kaha Conference”
Iron Māori founder Heather Skipworth will join experts in public health, innovators in health delivery and leaders of Māori development as a speaker at the bi annual Tu Kaha Conference at Hawke’s Bay Racing Centre, Hastings from 29th to 31st October. As the leading conference of it’s kind for the central region DHBs, the event generates national interest and is open to all health professionals who have an interest and passion for Māori health.
The conference title is Te ahuareka o te Karamu: Sustainable solutions to accelerated improvements in Māori health outcomes.
Some forty presentations are on offer that cover clinical updates, hands-on concurrent sessions, case study learning opportunities, workshops and traditional learning practises.
The conference name Tū Kaha means great strength and leadership and has a strong workforce development focus. 60 year 13 students from across the country have been handpicked to attend Tū Kaha from 3500 Māori students who expressed an interest in a health career.
A drawcard for many at the conference is the Quarter Iron Māori triathlon mounted the next day Saturday 1 November at Pandora Pond in Napier. A sizeable contingent of Tū Kaha conference goers are registered to compete in the individual and team events in this popular phenomenon that’s transforming lifestyle choices where traditonal health systems have failed to do so.
