MDHB patients being surveyed on healthcare
MidCentral District Health Board is urging hospital patients to take part in a new survey asking them for feedback on their healthcare.
Invitations to take part in the first of a new series of surveys were posted out today to people in the MDHB region who spent at least one night in Palmerston North Hospital from 4 to 17 August 2014, as part of a national survey of 7500 patients. Recipients of the survey are encouraged to complete the survey on line using the unique code provided however posted responses are equally encouraged.
Director Patient Safety and Clinical Effectiveness Muriel Hancock encourages people to fill in the survey which is an important way of improving the quality of hospital care and understanding how well health services are working for patients and their families.
The survey was developed by the Health Quality and Safety Commission and is the first time hospital patients’ feedback has been collected and measured in the same way across the country.
DHBs well send the survey to randomly-selected patients at least once every three months.
Responses to the survey will be collated to give each DHB a rating out of 10 in four areas: coordination, partnership, communication, and physical and emotional needs.
Ms Hancock said it is important people reply to the surveys, as results will help MDHB staff learn from the feedback, and further improve its services to the public.
Results of the first survey will be available on the commission’s website in October 2014.
