Christmas is on the move!

Christmas is on the move!

Tuesday 26th August 2014
For immediate release

The King George Christmas Shoppe is moving from the township of Bayview to the Taradale Town Hall, a move hailed to be the catalyst for an even bigger and better event showcasing Christmas - Taradale style!

Starting out in 2007, Mel Treweek had an idea to create a unique Christmas Shoppe as a way to fundraise for a local school. Seven years later this ‘pop up’ shop has become a must do on many Christmas lovers calendars.

Always staged in the first week of December the Christmas Shoppe opens its doors for one week only to a room filled with 24 individually decorated Christmas trees adorned with exquisite decorations, tables filled with beautiful centrepieces, wreaths, gorgeous gifts and festive candles.

Mel and husband Kim are very excited about the move “although Bayview has been incredibly supportive of the Christmas Shoppe and we will miss the local community, it is time to move the Shoppe to a larger more central location being Taradale, to allow it to be shared by more people.

Christmas is such a special time and the sheer beauty of walking into the hall all decorated, will take your breath away."

For the fourth year, the Christmas Shoppe once again supports the Child Cancer Foundation with a gold coin donation for entry collected at the door. This year, for the first time ever, businesses will get an opportunity to sponsor a tree in the hall, with all proceeds going to the Child Cancer Foundation. Businesses and their clients will then be given the opportunity to come to a preview night giving them the first opportunity to snap up the most sought after decorations!

Vicky Rope, Fundraising and Business Development Manager for the Child Cancer Foundation in Hawke’s Bay says “having been a customer of the Christmas Shoppe myself for a number of years I am so excited to work alongside Mel and her team to create the best Christmas Shoppe yet. The shift to the more central location of Taradale will increase foot traffic, give more people the ability to come along and also give Taradale retail and hospitality precinct a boast."

Treweek says “with the addition of a few new initiatives we hope to raise a record $10,000 for the Child Cancer Foundation and we can’t wait!!"

The Christmas Shoppe preview night opens on Monday 1st December to VIP’s and sponsors.

Open to the public Tuesday 2nd December – Friday 5th December 2pm-8pm and then Saturday 6th December 9am-4pm.

Santa visits the Shoppe each night (Tues-Fri at 6pm and on Sat at 12pm)

ABOUT THE CHILD CANCER FOUNDATION

The Foundation needs to raise $6 million annually to help children with cancer and their families by providing practical one-on-one support tailored to the different needs of each family.

No child cancer journey is the same. Our Family Support Coordinators hold the hand of each child and their family until they are ready to let go, from day of diagnosis, through treatment and beyond. The average length of treatment for the most common form of childhood cancer, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia, is three years for girls and three and a half years for boys.
