New Zealand Men Step Up During Men’s Health Week

More than 30,000 New Zealand men filled out an online “What’s Your Score” Men’s Health Week survey – a three-fold increase on last year. In addition Green Cross Health offered more than double the number of free blood pressure checks at pharmacies while thousands more took advantage of free health checks throughout the month of June.

During Men’s Health Week 2014 New Zealand men were encouraged to step through a series of online questions about their health designed to promote positive action, and to take advantage of free Men’s Health Pit Stop Checks at one of the more than 300 participating pharmacies nationwide.

Brenda Whiteman from Unichem Levin said the Pit Stop Checks looked at blood pressure, blood glucose, BMI, zinc testing and pharmacists provided advice on life style changes and natural health alternatives. “At times during June we were seeing 20 men each day for a 30 minute consultation,” she said.

Lance Walker, CEO of Cigna Life Insurance, said his company was proud to have been a sponsor of an event that was very successful in raising awareness of men’s health and encouraging a healthy lifestyle.

“It’s great to have an annual event like Men’s Health Week to encourage men to look at their health and identify areas that they need to focus on,” he said.

Men’s Health Week 2014 was supported by Mana Tane Ora o Aotearoa, depression.org.nz and the Men’s Health Trust, Registered Master Builders, Cigna, Pit Stop, Nature’s Own, M2 and Life, Unichem and Amcal pharmacies.
